haversWährend eines festlichen Banketts von Wall-Street-Bankern wird Frank Hatcher, Finanzmanager der Investmentfirma 'Bewliss Securities', tot in der Herrentoilette aufgefunden. Man hat ihn mit einem Steakmesser des Hotels, in dem das Bankett stattfindet, erstochen. Wheeler und Nichols gehen zunächst davon aus, dass es sich bei dem Mord um den Racheakt eines geprellten Anlegers handeln könnte. Denn einige der Gäste hatten kurz zuvor ihr gesamtes Vermögen bei 'Bewliss Securities' verloren. Die Detectives befragen den Chef der Investmentfirma, Archie Bewliss. Er berichtet, dass er einen seiner Angestellten, Richard Kramer, kürzlich entlassen habe, da dieser schwere, in Archies Augen aber ungerechtfertigte Vorwürfe gegen Frank Hatcher vorgebracht habe. Nichols und Wheeler glauben nicht, in Richard den Mörder gefunden zu haben. Archie hingegen kommt ihnen ziemlich verdächtig vor - ist aber bereits am nächsten Tag nicht mehr zu sprechen. Sein Arzt Dr. Ernst hat ihn aufgrund großer psychischer Probleme in eine von ihm geleitete Klinik einweisen lassen. Nichols begibt sich daraufhin dorthin und befragt die anderen Patienten - mit einem aufschlussreichen Ergebnis. Offensichtlich haben fast alle Patienten von Dr. Ernst ihr Geld bei 'Bewliss Securities' angelegt. Einer von ihnen, Ron Hemmings, ist extrem wütend auf Archie und bezeichnet ihn während einer Gruppentherapiesitzung als Betrüger. Am nächsten Tag entdeckt man Hemmings mit aufgeschnittenen Pulsadern in der Badewanne...

Tweaks and enhancements

1. In order to improve site security, we've temporarily suspended the ability to change passwords for old email addresses that haven't been used for over six months. For further information and support, please visit our customer care page.
2. We've launched a new mobile site with an enhanced UI at m.livejournal.com. View spotlights, post to your journal, read and post to friends pages, and more, no matter where you roam! 3. We've upgraded from Beacon to Facebook Connect to improve dual posting. If you've already signed up for Facebook Beacon, you're good to go. You can choose Always or Ask each time. Remember to save (on the bottom left corner of the page). To learn more, check out FAQ 249. Thanks for joining us. To our American friends, have a fantastic Thanksgiving. To all of our international neighbors, we'll eat a little extra for you!

haversDie Anführerin einer Atheisten-Bewegung und deren Enkelin wurden entführt. Obwohl man das Lösegeld wie gefordert zahlt, wird die alte Dame kurz darauf ermordet aufgefunden. Ihrer Enkelin April ist jedoch die Flucht gelungen. Am Tatort finden die Ermittler eine weitere Leiche vor, offenbar die eines der drei Kidnapper. Wenig später findet man den zweiten Kidnapper tot, auch er wurde ermordet. Die Spur führt zu Mitch Godel, einem Masseur, der schon einmal wegen Kreditkartenbetruges gesessen hat. Von einem seiner Kollegen erfahren Goren und Eames, dass Mitch ihm Geld dafür gegeben hatte, dass er ihm April als Kundin abtritt. Gleichzeitig fällt den Ermittlern auf, dass sich April für ein Entführungsopfer sehr merkwürdig benimmt. Hat sie gemeinsame Sache mit Mitch gemacht? Eine Gegenüberstellung der beiden soll Licht ins Dunkel bringen...

Als Goren und Eames das Mordopfer näher untersuchen, stellen sie fest, dass der Tote keinen Ausweis, dafür aber eine sehr exklusive Brieftasche bei sich trägt. Sie will nicht so recht ins Bild passen, da der Tote ansonsten eher bescheidene Kleidung trägt. Zudem entdecken die Ermittler in einem Schuh des Opfers einen Schlüssel, der offensichtlich zu einem Schließfach gehört. Das Schließfach enthält eine ganze Reihe von Dokumenten, die Goren und Eames Aufschluss über die Identität des Toten geben. Er hieß Anthony Burris und lebte offenbar zuletzt in Philadelphia. Dort kann das Ermittler-Duo Anthonys Exfrau ausfindig machen, die zur Klärung des Falls einige hilfreiche Hinweise geben kann. Anthony hatte einen Bruder namens Tommy und die Mutter der beiden ist auf mysteriöse Art ums Leben gekommen. Steht dieses dunkle Kapitel der Familiengeschichte in irgendeinem Zusammenhang mit dem Mord an Anthony? Um dies herauszufinden, suchen Goren und Eames nach Tommy - ein ausgesprochen schwieriges Unterfangen, denn Tommy nimmt ständig neue Identitäten an...

Postcard winners!

We wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude for sending so much joy our way. Frank is still blushing with excitement over the love notes, proposals, propositions, and occasional intimate photos sent from his admirers around the world (China, Norway, Japan, and Poland just this week)! At his request, we blindfolded Justin, one of Frank's BFFs, spun him around in five dozen counterclockwise circles, and asked him to point to ten random postcards/envelopes pasted to the wall.
